Whale-Info.com Where
The Researchers Share Their
Knowledge Of Whales With You

Did you know that Dolphins and Porpoises are Whales? And that Cetacean is the scientific name for them?
We didn't, not until we met Carina Ramm and Tim Arnold that is.
Tim and Carina are Cetacean researchers originally from Germany, now living in the kingdom of Tonga, a small group of islands in the South Pacific, They are here to study the marine mammals in the surrounding waters of the tiny Island of 'Eua.

We aim to share with you their knowledge and give you the latest news and insights on their discoveries.
Through RSS feeds and emails we will keep you up to date with each new page, picture and information as it is added to this site and inform you on what Carina and Tim have achieved and discovered on their three year The Tonga Trench Project, regularly as it occurs.

What you will learn here is not going to be outdated facts and figures on these magnificent marine mammals. But instead fresh information and up to date news as it's discovered, from passionate, credible, Cetacean loving researchers. So Sign Up, Tune In, Turn On, to Whale-info.com.

Meet The Researchers

We are Carina Ramm and Tim Arnold. We studied biology in Germany and are now living in Tonga to research the whales and dolphins (cetaceans) in the surrounding waters.

Carina Ramm

Hi I'm Carina Ramm. I studied at the Justus-Liebig University of Giessen and the Christian Albrechts University of Kiel. I am specialized in zoology, marine biology and geology. I am a PhD candidate and will write my thesis about the cetaceans in the open Tonga Trench waters.
My special interests are acoustics/vocalizations of Cetacea, their migration patterns and also their ecological role in the marine ecosystem as a whole.

Tim Arnod Hi I'm Tim Arnold. I've wanted to be a Cetacea researcher since I was three years old which probably is the fault of my parents. I had a dolphin spoon and they dressed me in a romper suit with pictures of whales on it. Now as a result, they have a son without any income and bad chances to earn much money in the future.
I study biology at Christian Albrechts University of Kiel with specializing in zoology, ecology and physics.
I am writing my diploma thesis and will start with my PhD about Cetacea in Tongan waters in March 2009, but I'm already living in 'Eua.
I am especially interested in the behavior and acoustics of cetaceans and in the development of appropriate technical equipment to study both.

For both of us this project is a dream come true. It took us two years to organize this study. Which is still is unfunded, however in our opinion conservation of the Cetacea and the marine ecosystem which surrounds them is worth a lot more than a comfortable life style.
